FurGen 1.0.5 – Bug Fix
I’ve gotten several reports about an error that appears when trying to run FurGen for the first time. This is related to Vista/Win7 UAC settings and not having permission to write a file in a certain location. Although running Rhino as an administrator will solve this issue, I’ve gone back and fixed the plug-in so that you won’t need administrator privileges to run the plug-in.
I’ve also added an extra 14 days for the people who downloaded FurGen and are only now getting a chance to actually use it. If you experienced this issue, please download the new version and see what FurGen can do.

GH|DotNET Scripting Training – July 21-23 – New Date
UPDATE: Due to schedualing conflicts, the dates for the training have been changed from July 12th-14th to July 21st-23rd. In addition, the price has been decreased from $895 to $795. All other details remain the same.

Although Grasshopper is a powerful tool designed to allow non-coders access to programming-like capabilities, being able to programm allows for new possibilities along with added power and flexibility. Combine the power of Code with the accessibility of Grasshopper and the possibilites for exploration become even greater. Grasshopper|DotNet scripting training focuses specifically on the scripting capabilities and challenges of using Rhino’s DotNET SDK, as well as the DotNET framework within Grasshopper. Trainees will be given the tools to understand how to approach coding with Rhino’s DotNET SDK and perform a variety of tasks which will be the building blocks for Grasshopper scripts.
Topics for the training will include the general structure of the Rhino DotNET SDK, Object Oriented Programming, the Grasshopper scripting environment, data trees, as well as creating, manipulating, and evaluating points, curves, surfaces, and B-Reps.
The training is aimed at people with some experience writing code who are looking to try and begin scripting within Grasshopper. Although the course does presume some previous coding experience, it does not assume a specific language or application, and syntax issues will be covered.
Training will be given in VB.NET, although training material will have both VB.NET and C# examples. Trainees interested in coding in C# are encouraged to register.
Trainees are required to bring their own laptops with Rhino and Grasshopper installed. Installing Visual Studio 2008 Express is recommended. Arrangements can be made for Trainees without laptops at an additional cost. Space is limited to 10 trainees.

FurGen Release Candidate 3
FurGen RC 3 is now available for download. This version will expire on July 12, 2010. This version will be the final release candidate, so the next build will be the full release version of the plugin and will be available for purchase. Purchasing details will be posted as the release date approaches. RC 3 automatically saves the fur settings into the document, so that there is no need to explicitly save the fur data with the frSaveFurData command. Note that only the settings are saved, not all of the fur data. This means that the setting will be the same from session to session, but it is possible that resulting fur might look slightly different. In most cases the result will be unnoticable, but if you do require the ability to exactly recreate the result from a previous fur setup, then you can still use the frSaveData and frLoadData commands.

FurGen Release Candidate 2
FurGen RC2 is now available for download. This version has some small bug fixes as well as a few additions and some updates to the documentation. If you haven’t taken a look at the PDF in the download, it explains a number of the specifics regarding the plugin. The most noticeable fix is that baking with the AlongStrand option is now working correctly. A Cap option has been added to strands and a polycount has been added to the tool tip on the point count. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns, please feel free to add a comment, post on the forum, or send an email to support@liquidtectonics.com. Thanks again to everyone who’s download FurGen, and I hope you like the new version.
